Four Days’ Birding in Qinling Mountain

DI; We will meet you at the airport in the morning and transfer you to Changqing Nature Reserve in Qinling mountain for birdwatching. It is about 320km away from Xi’an. Lunch is on the way. We will be in Yangxian county for seeing Crested Ibis in the afternoon. After check-in hotel, we go out for watching Crested Ibis returning nest. Stay in Yangxiang county for overnight and dinner will be local food. L+D

D2: We leave the hotel at 7:00 am for seeing Oriental Crested Ibis again,which is endangered in the world,had disappeared for long time in the world. They were rediscovered only seven in Qinling Mountain in 1981 but now are over 1000 living around in Yangxian county,. After twenty years breeding and protecting, this place has become the best place to watch the Crested Ibis in the world. Afterwards, we leave Yangxian county for Changqing Nature Reserve to see golden pheasants, king fisher and other species of birds. In evening we will stay in Changqing Guest House B+L+D

D3: Whole morning for birdwatching in Changqing Nature Reserve. After lunch, drive back to xi’an. Stay in xi’an for overnight.

D4: We see you off at the airport in the morning.

Chang Qing Nature Reserve(Hua Yang ancient town) is located in south part of Qinling Mountan, which has over three hundred years history. Wandering in the town, you may find hundred years old houses in the town. Besides, here is one of the best places of birding in China. There are over hundreds species of forest bird in this area. Including: Golden Pheasant, Ring-necked Pheasant, Blood Pheasant, Koklass Pheasant, Hua Mei, White-eyes,Red-billed Leiothrix, Leaf Warblers, Laughng thrushes, Game Birds, Azure-winged Magpie, Mrs Gould ‘ssunbird,White-bellied Green Pigeon, Grey Bushchat, Temminck‘s Tragopan, Vinaceous Rosefinch, Bar-tailed treecreeper, Marsh Tit, Rusty-breasted Tit, Fire-capped Tit,White-collared Yuhinas,Long-tailed Minivet and White-capped water redstart.

Day 01: Leave home for China.

Day 02: Upon arrival in Shanghai city,you will be transferred to your hotel for rest.Shanghai,the metropolis of the world with over twenty million inhabitants, is commercial centre of China which witness the great change of Chinese economy in past fifty years.

Day 03: Shanghai History Museum and Bund will be in the morning and Yuyuan Garden in the afternoon. In evening we eat dinner at local restaurant. After dinner will be the Acrobatic show B+L+D

Day 04: We take morning flight to Xi’an city. Check in the hotel and visit Great Mosque and Muslim street.Special Dumpling dinner with Tang Dynasty Show in the evening. Xi’an, the ancient capital city of China, which has eight million people is the starting point of the silk road which was opened in 138 year BC. It led all the way to ancient Rome in old days.Modern Xian has become the industrial city made the heavy industry and tourism as the back-bone of economy. Besides the historic places and tourist attractions Xi’an is the paradise for Birdwatching. South to Xian is the Qinling mountain which stretches from west to east. It is the water shed between North China and South China. The summit is 3770 meters altitude. It is the largest nature reserve in China, has been regarded as the national park. About 203 varity of species of birds have been discovered in the Reserve, pandas and golden hair monkies as well. Besides Birdwatching, we do explore the terra-cotta warriors and horses museum which were made in Qin dynasty, 2000 years ago.      B+L+D

Day 2: We take long drive to Yangxian conty in Qinling mountain for birding in the morning which is 260 km far away from Xian city. Lunch will be in Yangxian county. We check in the hotel to have lunch. In the afternoon, we go to Caoba for birding. Dinner will be in the town. B+L+D

Day 3: Full day Birding. Today we drive up to 500m altitude to watch birds. Jiang Shuwan supplies variety of wonderful birds including: Golden Pheasant, Ring-necked Pheasant, Hua Mei, White-eyes, Red-billed Leiothrix, Leaf Warblers, Laughingthrushes and Tits. B+L+D

Day 4: Leaving in the morning for Cai Jiapin to watch birds. Afterwards we drive to  Huayang ancient town. Lunch will be at local restaurant in the town. In late afternoon we go to Diao Bahe river to see Golden Monkeys.You may make local discovery of ancient town by yourself in rest of time.

Day 5: We start in early morning for Bird watching. We drive along the loop line surrounding Huayang town about 9km, where is 1000m above sea level to get view of species of birds like Oriental Crested Ibis, Golden Eagle, Upland Buzzard, Game Birds, Azure-winged Magpie, Mrs Gould’s sunbird, White-bellied  Green Pigeon, Fire-capped Tit and Grey Bushchat。 B+L+D

Day6: On the third day in Qinling mountain we will drive to Dapin area(1000m to 3071m above sea level) to see Blood Pheasant, Golden pheasant, Temminck’s Tragopan,Koklass Pheasant, Vinaceous Rosefinch, Bar-tailed treecreeper, Marsh Tit, Rusty-breasted Tit, White-collared Yuhinas,Long-tailed Minivet and White-capped water redstart.  B+L+D

Day 7: We leave Changqin Nature Reserve back to Xi’an this morning. Lunch will be in Xian city. Check in hotel and visit Big wildgoose Pagoda in the afternoon.In the evening you will enjoy the Tang Dynasty Show in dinner theater. B+L+D

Day8: Drive to Terra-Cotta Warriors and Horses Museum in the morning. Lunch will be arranged at local restaurant. Visit City Wall and Great Mosque in the afternoon. Dinner will be special local Flavor- Dumpling Dinner                          B+L+D

It is metropolitan city with 16 million inhabitants and centre of politics, economy and culture of China.

Day3 : Leave the hotel after breakfast to explore the Great Wall which is about 70 miles far away from Beijing. It was built in Qin dynasty 2000years ago to defend Mongolian troops and is only one man-made construction on earth which can be seen from the moon. Lunch will be at the foot of the wall and visit Olympic village in the afternoon.          B+L+D

Day 4: Visit the Tian an men Square and Forbidden City in the morning. It is another highlight in Beijing used to be the residence for Emperors of Ming and Qing dynasties. Fly to Xian in the afternoon. Check in the hotel and go for dinner at local restaurant.

So far 410 species of birds has been recorded, including red-crowned Crane, Oriental Stock, Pied Harrier, White Stock, Saunder’s Gull, Relict gull, Asian Dowicher,nordmann’s Greenshark and etc.                    B+L+D

Day 4: Full day bird watching. Leave the hotel in the morning for Lianpeng mountain to bird. Lunch will be boxed and dinner will be at the hotel.    B+L+D

Day 6: Boat to Happy Island to explore more species of aquatic bird..   B+L+D

After twenty years artificial breeding, Yangxian county in Qinling mountain has become the one of best place to watch the Crested Ibis in the world. Stay overnight in the county.  B+L+D

Day 10: Full day Birding. Today we drive up to 1017- 1700m altitude to watch birds. Yangjiagou supplies varity of wonderful birds including: Golden Pheasant, Ring-necked Pheasant, Hua Mei, White-eyes,Red-billed Leiothrix, Leaf Warblers, Laughng thrushes and Tits. Lunch will be the boxed and dinner at the hotel。 B+L+D

Day 11 : Start early to Zhongdi mountain by Diaoba river for Bird watching. We climb from 1100 to 2300m above sea level to get view of species of birds like Oriental Crested Ibis, Golden Eagle, Upland Buzzard,Game Birds, Azure-winged Magpie, Mrs Gould’s sunbird,White-bellied Green Pigeon,Fire-capped Tit and Grey Bushchat。 Lunch will be boxed and dinner at the hotel  B+L+D

After dinner

China Qinling YangXian International BirdWatching Competition Plan

About 150 bird watchers will be invited to take the competition from domestic and abroad.. All the bird watchers and bird lovers can arrange team freely. Each team may register in name of your country or your bird watching society. 4-5 people in each group, pointing one as leader,on behalf of the team to deal with all issues concern with competition.

9.  Place and Range of Competition

Huayang Scenic Zone, Changqin Nature reserve Zone and five bird watching routes.

Route 1: Huayang ancient town; ( Distance: 10 km to and from)

Route 2: Huayang ancient town; (Distance: 80 km to and from)

Route 3: Huayang ancient town-guanxi town-yangjiawan-gaoyuansi village-guanlinliang-Maopin- Kafang reservoir- hanba Village- Shtahe village- back to Huayang ancient town.( distance; 180 kmto and from)

Route 4: Huayang ancient town; ( Distance: 60 km to and from)

Route 5: Huayang ancient town; ( Distance: 60 km to and from)

Competition Area include the village, field, orchard,Hanjiang river, hilly area and woods en route bird

watching. Route 1,2,3,4 are sugested as the main and route 5 can be selected by each team.

10. Competition time

The Opening Ceremony will be held in the evening of June 27^th. The competition is to start on June 28 to 30 and Award Ceremony will be on july First. Total five Awards are set up:

Crested Ibis New Record Award: Two person,

Crested Ibis New Attendance Award: One team.

Crested Ibis Trophy Award: Several.

11. Competition Rule

Recording rule: Distinquish the species of birds by watching and hearing, the effective recording must be identified by at least two members of your team. Every recording the species of birds should be marked the time and the place of watching.

12.  Competition Jury

Competition Jury will be consisted of three Chinese bird specialists, two senior bird watchers and two photographic experts. Name list of jury will be published on competition guide.

13.  Competition Service:

organizing committee is to provide sketch map of competition zone and bird watching routes, bird recording form, vechicles guide, interpreters and commodation during the bird watching competition.
